Lord Jesus Christ, have Mercy

Jesus, Son of David have Mercy

Said Abba Hyperichius: “The wakeful monk toils night and day to pray continually: but if he pierces his heart, and lets tears drop, that calls God down from heaven to have mercy.”

Godly sorrow works repentance – not to be repented of…

Jesus, Son of God, have Mercy on this sinner.

Abba Evagrius said: “A wandering mind is strengthened by reading, and prayer. Passion is dampened down by hunger and work and solitude. Anger is repressed by psalmody, and long-suffering, and mercy. But all these should be at the proper times and in due measure. If they are used at the wrong times and to excess, they are useful for a short time. But what is only useful for a short time, is harmful in the long run.”

Dear one, penance is good, but all in balance is better.  Prayer and work and penance – all have their place – God works through all of these – but it is only by Grace through Faith that Salvation comes to the heart that is seeking God

The little soul is reminded constantly of the words of our Beloved Christ Jesus:

“Amen, amen I say unto you, that he who hears my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath life everlasting; and cometh not into judgment, but is passed from death to life.”  (St. John’s Gospel 5: 24)

How easily do we forget in our frail nature the Truth’s (the Way and the Life’s) very words that tell us succinctly that it is He alone who saves us— and it is not we who save ourselves.  Let the Word of God dwell in our hearts richly – for Jesus reaches down to touch sinful souls – and His Touch heals us absolutely – and our hearts are transformed at His Touch – and He transforms and sanctifies wholly all that He touches dear one – O, let us allow Him to come and dwell fully within and make us that new creation He desires to make of us.  Jesus Christ, Son of God has Mercy on this sinner.

Our Beloved turns no one away that comes to Him in true contrition – for Perfect Love does cast out all fear (dread).

This same Jesus – our Resurrected LORD and Savior – He alone is able to bring that Holy Touch to our little soul – He alone is able to heal us to the uttermost by Grace through Faith in Him alone.

Three Things for Salvation

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

As he was dying, Abba Benjamin told his spiritual sons:

“Do these three things and you will be able to be saved: Be joyful always, pray always, give thanks in all things.”

By doing these three things we empty ourselves of our little ego and this invites the Holy Spirit in. A saint is a man just like anybody else, dear ones, but when the Holy Spirit comes into him he becomes holy because the Spirit is Holy.

In Him alone we trust

All our temptations are persecutions, and yet without persecutions we would be lost.

We must remember that where sin increased, grace abounded all the more. (Romans 5:20)  But to receive that superabundance of grace we must permanently renounce all things.  These words seem harsh, even to souls like yourselves who yearn deeply for oneness with God, yet they become sweet when we begin to “taste the Lord and see that He is sweet.” (Psalm 34:8) – Bishop Paul
